My friend My Tam is a bright light.
Her eyes dance.
Her laugh ricochets around a room.
Her spirit cannot help but send one soaring.
This afternoon she hosted an Autumn Tea at her apartment. The timing was perfect: the sun slanted into the kitchen and bathed the table, photographed above, in warm light. When My Tam hosts a gathering over food she pays attention to every detail: the decor, the menu, the flavors, the music, and the company.
Over the course of three hours she brewed four kinds of tea (including the wonderfully named "Iron Goddess of Mercy Oolong"), served five kinds of sandwiches, three flavors of baked goods, and homemade plum juice. But it's not just the food she serves--always astonishingly delicious--it's how it feels to be in her presence. It feels remarkable.
Life is brighter with My Tam.
I cannot think of a better way to bid farewell to September while welcoming October with open arms and a full belly.

We had a writing exercise in Paris (I'm here with the State Department's WPSP: Global Health) as an ice-breaker. We described who we are in smells, tastes, and sounds.
ReplyDeleteHappy autumn and to more tea times. It is my favorite season as I am from the rustling leaves, the warming coals of the fire place, and the squishy and fully stuffed Harvest Moon home-made dumplings.
Theresa, thanks so much for reading. I'd love to hear what your smells, tastes, and sounds were. Paris! How marvelous. Like you, autumn is my favorite season. Salut!
